Parking in Amsterdam City

Mandy Thompson • Sep 13, 2022

Parking in Amsterdam and everything about parking garages, P + R, free and paid parking in the city, cheap or even free parking in Amsterdam? Read more about parking garages, parking rates and P + R locations in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is one of the most expensive cities in Europe when it comes to parking. In the city center, parking on the street costs no less than € 7.50 per hour. If your final destination is the center of Amsterdam, think carefully in advance where you will be parking. Garages are cheaper than parking on the street, but P + R is a good alternative to avoid the high parking costs. With public transport you are in the heart of Amsterdam within half an hour!

DID YOU KNOW?

Amsterdam is one of the most expensive cities in Europe when it comes to parking.

Useful Tools:

Mobile parking in Amsterdam

Payment is easiest via mobile parking . You don't have to look for the machine or wait in line. Moreover, you save on your parking costs because you only pay the actual parking time. You can do this by registering here.

Parking app for ANWB Members

ANWB members can use the ANWB parking app for ANWB Parking. The app shows all parking locations (garages, grounds and street parking) in Amsterdam with clear rates. Is there a free parking option further on? The app also reports this before you pay. With street parking via the app, you will receive free parking notifications while parking.

Amsterdam Street parking and Garages

Street parking and parking garages in Amsterdam charge different hourly rates. The highest rate of € 7.50 applies in the old city center and the lowest hourly rate of € 0.10 applies in a number of shopping streets, at a few sports fields and cemeteries.

Parking in parking garages is also expensive in Amsterdam, a common rate is € 0.50 for 7 minutes. A daily rate of € 50 is no exception. If you plan your route to the final destination in the ANWB Route Planner , you will see the rates for street parking and garages on the map.

Cheap garages

In the garages Weesperplein and Centrum Oost of Q-Park, a maximum daily rate of € 15 applies on Saturday and Sunday (the daily rate is € 30 on working days). Close to the Metro Weesperplein and within 1 km of Artis en Carré, accessible via the s112.At Parking Oosterdok you can park between 5-24 hours for € 20.00. Close to Amsterdam CS and ideal for a visit to the Maritime Museum and Nemo.

Reserve a parking space

At Mobypark you will find parking garages at hotels or private individuals. If you (temporarily) not use your garage yourself, you can rent it out on mobypark.com.

P + R (Park + Travel) in Amsterdam

Park at the nearest metro or train station and continue by public transport. Rules for parking on P + R (Parking + Travel) areas in Amsterdam:

  • Parking after 10.00 am and during the weekend costs € 1 per 24 hours.
  • Parking before 10 a.m. costs € 8 for the first 24 hours and € 1 per 24 hours thereafter.
  • Individual P + R GVB cards can be purchased at a discount on the P + R sites, or users can use their own OV chip card.

An important condition for the inexpensive P + R parking rate is a visit to the center area. The P + R center area consists of the Centrum district and parts of East, South and West. When paying the parking fee, the payment terminal checks whether the last check-in of the return journey has taken place in the central area. Only then will users be eligible for the advantageous P + R parking rate.Route plannerFind a P + R location by selecting 'Parking' in the Route Planner and then ticking the option 'P + R Locations'.
